Petra Broomans is Associate Professor of European Literatures and Cultures (Swedish) at the University of Groningen and visiting professor at Ghent University. Coordinator of research projects such as ‘Scandinavian Literature in Europe around 1900: the Influence of Language Politics, Gender and Aesthetics’ (2004-2010). Coordinator (together with Jeanette den Toonder) of the theme group ‘Beyond Horizons in Cultural Transfer Studies’ (Arts in Society). She has published numerous articles on the reception and image of Scandinavian literature in the Dutch-speaking region as well on cultural transfer in general. Together with Ingeborg Kroon she compiled the bibliography Swedish and Swedish-Finnish authors in Dutch translation (1491-2007) (2013) (with 79 translations of works by Selma Lagerlöf), and with Sandra van Voorst she has published Rethinking Cultural Transfer and Transmission. Reflections and New Perspectives (2012). Editor-in-chief of the series Studies on Cultural Transfer and Transmission (CTaT) and president of the board of the International Association for Scandinavian Studies (IASS).
