Selma Lagerlöf 2011: Text, Translation, Film was an international conference, arranged at University College London, 20-22 June 2011 by Helena Forsås-Scott (UCL), Lisbeth Stenberg (University of Göteborg) and Bjarne Thorup Thomsen (University of Edinburgh). This was the first international Lagerlöf conference since 1997, and the conference marked the publication of the first three volumes in a series of new English translations of Lagerlöf (Norvik Press, London). The conference attracted 63 participants from 10 countries, and there were 27 papers. Keynote lectures were given on translation (Dr Sarah Death, UCL), film (Professor Tytti Soila, University of Stockholm), and text (Dr Jenny Bergenmar, University of Göteborg). Victor Sjöström’s iconic film Körkarlen (1921) (The Phantom Carriage) was shown, with music composed and performed by Matti Bye, Stockholm. The conference was made possible thanks to the generous support of The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Fund, Stockholm, and the Embassy of Sweden, London.
